报告摘要:

There have been considerable scientific and technological advancements in recent years that can bring direct and indirect benefits to the fashion industry. These include smart and multi - functional textile materials, advanced apparel design and performance evaluation technologies, fashion information systems, and nano and related textile-processing technologies. These technologies can be explored, matured, and innovatively implemented for the benefit of the fashion industry.

There is also a global trend of integrating fashion design with technology. Many world renowned fashion designers are highly creative in making use of new materials and technologies. NYC, being a world fashion center, is a magnet for creative fashion design talent. There is a huge potential for these designers to take advantage of various forms of recent technological innovation and advancement, including, for example, eco-friendly fibers, smart fibers and membranes, biomimetic textiles, 3D garment finishing techniques, and wearable electronics.

In this presentation, I will provide an overview of the scholarship and academic programs at Cornell’s Department of Fiber Science and Apparel Design, which ranges from fashion history, fashion esthetics to functional design, nanotechnology and tissue engineering. In particular, I will elaborate the research and student experience at Cornell that builds state of the art materials and technologies into functional and stylish fashion products.
